WWCC 2013: Switzerland win morning tie-breaker
March 21, 2013
Switzerland defeated Russia 7-6 in an extra end in the first tie-breaker of the Titlis Glacier Mountain World Women's Curling Championship 2013.
This victory means that they face USA in the final tie-breaker to determine the fourth placed team who will then face Canada in the 3v4 Page Play-off on Saturday.
In this game, Russia raced to an early lead, up 3-1 by the fifth end break. However, Switzerland hit back immediately afterwards, scoring three points in the sixth end to edge them 4-3 in front.
In the ninth end, Russia skip Anna Sidorova opted to give up a steal of one point to Switzerland in favour of last stone in the tenth end. She used that to her advantage to score the one point needed to tie the game and take it into an extra end.
However, with hammer, Switzerland skip Silvana Tirinzoni made a draw to the edge of the button and score the one point required to seal the victory for her team.
Switzerland now progress to play USA in the second and final tie-breaker. This games takes place at 14:00 (EET).
The winner of this final tie-breaker then proceeds to the 3v4 Page Play-off where they will face Canada on Saturday March 23, at 14:00 (EET).
